Wildfox Couture always slays me with their look books. Sometimes fashion is so serious, and it’s so nice to see a company having actual honest-to-goodness fun with their branding. The Wildfox Couture Resort ’13-’14 look book most adorably named “ANGELS OFF DUTY,” is a cheeky throwback to the iconic TV show Charlie’s Angels full of 1970′s zeitgeist and feathered hair that would make Farrah Faucet proud. Also, it’s starring 3 Photogenics lovelies:Amanda Smith, Avery Tharp, and Dioni Tabbers. BABES<3
It’s Monday. BLEH. Really…The worst day of the week, but while so many people out there are grinning and bearing through the day, begrudgingly going through the motions, I get to come to work and look at pretty photos all day and then go make music when I’m done. #sorrynotsorry. Not a bad way to start off another week, and for that I am tremendously grateful. There’s something to be said about getting to do the things you love for a living, so to everyone reading this: We have to dream big. Settling is not an option. Our sanity depends on it…and so on and so forth.
It’s a LOOK.BOOK.LOVE kind of day, and I’ve decided to feature our babe-of-all-babes, Daria P. in “Cry Baby” For Love and Lemons Summer ’13 shot by Zoey Grossman. Another on-point concept styled by Nasty Gal senior stylist and Purse’n Bootsblogger, Ashley Glorioso. …and damn, girl. THOSE LIPS!!! I want it all.
So here we are with another Monday under our belts. Let’s just brace ourselves for the week ahead and be eternally grateful for the good, shall we? What other way is there? -M-
Warning: This is a wordy one…hope you have time to indulge. =)
This week has been KILLER. While desert goers have returned like the Walking Dead to zombie the streets of LA trying to recover from the hedonistic onslaught of pure and unadulterated fun, I’m over here bouncing off the walls of my brain, buzzing with the anticipation of Coachella: Round 2 on the horizon. I can hardly stand it. Nerves are at a 10, and I need to be at, like, a 4 in order to get anything done.
Thankfully, my super outdoorsy best guy friend, Mike, always shows me cool shit that he finds online, and this time his offerings proved very helpful in my attempt to refocus.
He told me to peep these short films by Sitka, this really dope Canadian surf/skate brand that slangs the notion of apparel as a basic necessity, and they do it with such eloquence, both verbally and visually.
Since I’m such a sucker for words, I’ve decided to be annoying and copy/paste their message:
“At the centre of our collective consciousness is a reverence for our environment – both the natural and urban worlds that we have created for ourselves. Sitka is a product of these environments, in which we find ourselves so at home. We’re found wandering the peaks and valleys of the mountain passes…[and] the rainy city blocks of the urban commute…And, if you’ve found yourself in these places; places where the fog clings to the trees and the ocean breathes salty breath on your face, remind yourself that there is no bad weather where there’s good clothing. And, for that, Sitka has got you covered.”
Visually, they’re far from your typical skate brand with thick woods and mountains as their backdrop in place of hot, grimy LA/NY streets. Sitka is this beautiful winter that we can’t touch.
And, clearly something about those Pacific Northwest boys really does it for me.
So, this post is dedicated to some of the best dudes I know.
Vol.2 of LOOK.BOOK.LOVE features the latest collection by Los Angeles based brand, UNIF, comprised of disgustingly cute couple Eric Espinoza + Christine Lai. They do neo-90′s grunge like no other, and the angsty youth brigade is ravenously eating up every morsel of their throwback tributes to the things we hold so dear. They also have zero qualms about dropping knowledge by bringing in super obscure references like American punk rock monster, GG Allin (If you don’t know, now you know. Google him. He’s insaaaane). Their designs are blaringly loud and almost painfully colorful, but, I mean, we all like a little pain now and again. Either way, they’re not afraid to make shit that makes them happy, and in turn their throngs of avid followers are happy too.
So, without further ado, here is WET HOT AMERICAN BUMMER….UNIF SPRING 2013 featuring our gap-toothed beauty, Avery Tharp.
It’s pretty clear that we’re super careful about how we contribute during LA Fashion Week. There’s definitely a method to our madness, and we support a handful of brands for very different reasons.
In this case, B:SCOTT and now SARAH SCOTT have been friends of Photogenics from the start, and we’re proud to have been a part of their recent AW ’13 show. I got to hang out backstage to catch our guys and dolls being ridiculous before they stormed the runway and put on a lively, trap-nasty show. Cheers to SCOTTxSCOTT!!! So fly… – M-
So, check it. I’m all about giving props where props are due. I think I’ve even used that line in a previous post…maybe a few different posts…and I’ll keep saying it. #IDGAF. It feels good to give dabs because I know what it’s like to pour your heart and soul into something until you’re lying there bleeding all over the floor. I know. It’s a little dramatic, but creatives can attest. Seriously, that’s how it feels. It’s funny, we all say we do it for the love or for the art, but come on. Sometimes it’s nice to be recognized for a job well done.
It’s undeniable that lately our family of clients have been stepping it up artistically for what we used to dismiss as “unusable images.” Now, a look book is an inspired, editorial take on line sheets, a creative outlet for many brands who are looking to make their distinctive stamp known and not forgotten. So, I’ve decided to add a section to our blog to showcase the best of the best.
Welcome to LOOK.BOOK.LOVE (Vol. 1)
First up: a new men’s brand called Chapter headed by our buddy and creative director, Devin Carlson. It’s actually been out for a while, but it’s the one that inspired me to do these posts in the first place. So here it is. Look on, and get lost…
So, I just fell in love with our boys Morgan and Justin in the new Halfman Romantics SS’13 video campaign, “Boys and Girls Meet Skateboarding.” It’s Cali flavor at it’s finest, and though I’m still rocking winter gear (my fave), I’m slightly tickled by the idea of running around in big shades and a sundress thanks to this ditty. Let’s “Venice” out for a minute, shall we?
