Tara Dougans was brought to my attention not too long ago by one of our savvy interns, and I haven’t been able to get her work out of my mind. This Berlin-based digital artist, art director, and illustrator began her career in London where she spent 2 years doing art direction where her work was first noted for its hand-crafted, collage-style animation. In 2012, she teamed up with nowness.com to launch her first short called “Beware of a Man’s Shadow,” to mark the debut of Men’s Fashion Week in London and has since collaborated with Selfridges, Karl Lagerfeld, Maison Martin Margiela x SHOWstudio, Iris van Herpen, Commons&Sense Japan, Telegraph UK, Amsterdam International Fashion Week and the Fashion Department at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts.
Here it is: one last color bomb before melancholia ensues and we’re subdued by the grays and browns of Fall. This post is inspired by the eye gouging neon lights of Shibuya, Tokyo, a place I found to be both a blinding whirlwind of commercial chaos and a beautifully arranged rainbow of lights all at once. Shibuya Crossing on a summer night is like entering a sensory overloaded dream state, and I’ll never forget it.
We often find friendships in the most unlikely places. One day, when you least expect it, she’ll hit you like a ton of bricks, and you’ll never want to live a day without her. Sisters are all made of star stuff. So, hold onto her, whoever she may be.
Dedicated to my BFF. Safe travels across the globe, my friend.
